About us
Who we are, what we hold to, and the people to talk to.
Our story
Mount Olive was founded in 1948 by eleven families who met in a living room on Sample Boulevard. The sanctuary went up in 1963, and the pews are still the ones members built. (Sample history for the template.)
We are a Sunday-best, hymns-and-choir kind of church that also runs a Wednesday Bible study where everybody argues kindly. Whoever you are, there is a seat.
What we believe
- The church
- The church is a people before it is a building: baptized, fed at one table, and sent to love the neighborhood.
- One God, Father, Son and Spirit
- We worship the God who made everything, who came among us in Jesus, and who stays with us by the Holy Spirit.
- Grace
- Nobody earns their place here. We are forgiven and welcomed because of what God has done, not what we have managed.
- Hope
- We trust that God will set the world right, and we live that way now, in small ways, on ordinary days.
- The Bible
- We read the Bible as the main way God speaks to the church, and we read it together, with questions.
